About the Terra Nova Journeys
One thing that can be taken for granted on a visit to Aotearoa is the fantastic landscape. There are simply not enough superlatives to describe the scenic beauty of the country. Its natural heritage is, for many, its greatest attraction. However, in a world where there are many beautiful places, we have one feature that sets us apart from everywhere else - the indigenous culture of our Maori people.
New Zealand Journeys tells this unique story of the fusion of the cultural values of Maori and the places, people, legends, ritual and customs of this land of Aotearoa. It's also about meeting and getting to know local people at home, work, and play.
It is a journey to help you get under the skin of this great little country and enjoy authentic experiences of local hospitality - genuine expressions of openness and welcome so that you go home feeling you have made new friends, and that you know the people and the place much better than when you arrived.
We think the best way to start your journey is to learn a little about our history - about the creation of our country when it broke away from Gondwanaland, the birds that have inhabited it for 80 million years, the recent arrival of man, and the way the country has been reshaped over the past millennium.
From then on just enjoy the opportunities to meet us in our homes, on our marae, on the beaches, in the forests and at pubs and restaurants. Some times you can help preparing our food. Other times, just share meals or enjoy fine wine as you explore this stunningly beautiful South Pacific country.
